Morning Routine Checklist for Busy Women: The Ultimate Guide
MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST: HEALTH
Wake up early - avoid the snooze button
The first step of creating a morning routine for success, is to wake up early. Developing a consistent sleep routine is the foundation of a good morning routine. If you hit the snooze button each morning, you are allowing your body to determine the actions of your mind.
When you push through the desire to snooze for 5 minutes more, you win the first battle of the day! Once you’re up and feel good that you ‘managed’ your dis-empowering urge, your mind will be excited for what’s to come next.
Fit in a movement session
Whether your goal is to lose weight, increase your flexibility or just get stronger, moving your body first thing in the morning is a must.
It doesn’t have to be an overwhelming hour long sweat session (Unless you want it to be and you have the time). A few simple yoga stretches, 7 minute HIIT or a quick 10 minute resistant training can be all it takes to get the blood circulating and heart pumping.
The positive chemicals released in the body through movement help to rebalance your mind – and make you feel good!
Drink a full glass of water
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate – nothing you haven’t heard before! But do you know adding a full glass of water to your morning routine can:
- Increase your metabolic rate. Enabling your digestive system to absorb nutrients faster.
- Stabilise your lymphatic system to help build a strong immune system.
- Add hydration to the body, improving mood and fatigue symptoms.
MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST: MIND
Repeat positive affirmations
The majority of the thoughts we have, (especially first thing in the morning), are the same thoughts we had the day before! In order to create a positive morning routine – we need to get our mind on board.
Whether you write them in a book, repeat out load or use sticky notes on a mirror. Positive affirmations provide a little extra daily encouragement towards what we want to achieve and who we want to become.
However, affirmations need to be paired with action. During your morning rituals and throughout rest of the day, look for opportunities to experience your affirmation.
By doing this, you soon start to embody the ‘I AM’ you desire.
Practice meditation
The practice of meditation can take several different forms. There is no one way for all.
However, the daily practice of being still for a few minutes during the morning, can have profound affects on your mind to body connections.
Meditation is a practice of overcoming your usual default signals and urges. The key word is ‘practice’!
Even if you start off by adding 5 minutes of stillness into your morning routine and resist the urge to move or get up – you are making progress to overcoming yourself.
Write in a Journal
It feels good to let things out! Adding a few minutes to write in a journal each morning is an optimal way to purge your thoughts. What’s more, you get to decide what you want your journal to be filled with.
You can use a journal to:
- Express your feelings.
- Write the things you are grateful for.
- Future goals.
- Your intentions for the day.
- Challenges you want to overcome.
How you use a journal as part of a good morning routine is entirely up to you. The main point is ensuring it empowers your day.
MORNING ROUTINE CHECKLIST: PRODUCTIVITY
Prioritise important tasks
If your mornings are usually filled with overwhelm due to things you have to get done that day, use some time to prioritise your tasks.
Not only will this get them out of your head. But, it also gives you a plan of how you will navigate your day.
Having this as a daily morning practice, your life (and mind), starts to feel more balanced and less stressed. This will enhance your productivity and help you make more progress.
Learn something new
The staple action in all morning routines of successful women is making time to learn.
Whether that be reading a book, listening to a podcast or making time to learn a new hobby. Carving out time in the morning to allocate a space for growth is a must for all good morning routines.
Prepare your morning routine the night before!
As well as waking up early, the best way to creating a successful morning routine is to prepare the night before.
When you’ve decided what you want to include from the morning routine checklist for busy women below, prepare for each action the night before.
This will remove any obstacles in the morning and allow your routine to flow in the way you intend it to.
